You know what's really frustrating? Liking something before everyone else does. I mean really liking something when its relatively obscure, only to have every trendy jackass alive join in on your trend. This can be a fashion statement, liking a tv show, liking a band, liking an actor, liking a certain food. ANYTHING. If you're really into something when its unknown, then it becomes popular, no matter what you wind up pissed off. This has personally happened to me on three seperate occasions that I can think of: Wearing boat shoes, thinking Erin Andrews was attractive and being a fan of the band Kings of Leon. I'll stick with the last one.
In 2004 Rizzo, commentor Kevin and I ventured to the music festival Bonnaroo. We saw a little band from the home-state of Tennessee with about 25 other people in a small tent. That band rocked out. None of us knew their songs, but they were damn good. That band was Kings of Leon.
A year later we returned to Bonnaroo and saw that same band again. Only this time it was on one of the main stages and there were several hundred people there with us.
Flash foward to today, 2009. I can't go one car trip without hearing "Use Somebody" their hit song. Its being played so much that one of my favorite sports writers HATES Kings of Leon right now. Randomly attractive women I talk to 'love' Kings of Leon. I tell ya, I did not envision KOL being a popular band amongst the beautiful. But evidently they are. They're fricken everywhere!
And the whole time I keep trying to tell people how i'm an even bigger fan. How I have had their first two CD's for the past four years and saw them way back in the day.
But you know someting? Nobody gives a shit. Most people don't even believe me. Even if they do believe it, I sound really insecure trying to explain to them how cool I am for liking something first.
That's the problem with being ahead of the curve. Eventually, everyone else catches on, and you get lost in the crowd. I'd be a lot happier if I had just heard about Kings of Leon.
There's no satisfaction or reward for liking something first, (unless you invest stock in it I guess, then it would probably be underrated.)
But since I'm an idiot and don't invest in stock, whenever I like something first I always end up aggrivated. And nobody likes a cranky TomO
VERDICT:
OVERRATED

Amen Tom, amen. I want to add that they have officially sold out their new remix CD is in the works...
ReplyDeletethe thing is i still really like Kings of Leon. And I never ever have a problem with anyone selling out.
ReplyDeleteI mean, if someone offered me a million dollars for the naming rights to this website, I would take it without even consulting with Rizzo.
It would just be frustrating to all you commentors.
(God I really hope that scenario happens, that would be so glorious()
They look like such douchebags in this picture.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that just sucks is I can never see them live again, I would just get pissed off at everyone and would not enjoy the music as much.
ReplyDeleteEhhh,
ReplyDeleteHaha.
ReplyDeleteWhat are some other things you all have liked before they became popular?
Kevin remember when you and I started the "Gooch" stand for Tadahito Iguchi his first game in the majors? Then everyone started doing it like a year later? Although that one didn't piss me off.
